The equipment drive will benefit the Redbird Rookies, a baseball league sponsored by Cardinals Care, which provides equipment for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play. Donation bins will be placed in nine Sports Authority stores and six area Johnny Mac locations beginning June 16th. Those who make a donation of gently used baseball equipment will receive a 10% off coupon towards their next Rawlings purchase. The collection will conclude on July 17th, 2009.
“Rawlings firmly believes that everyone should be able to participate in America’s pastime and we’re proud to lend a helping hand to players in need,” said Robert Parish, President and General Manager of Rawlings. “We’re confident that the best fans in baseball here in St. Louis will rally together to make this program a tremendous success.”“With the All-Star Game here in St. Louis this year, we have an exciting opportunity to show all of baseball just what kind of people make up this great city of ours,” said Tony La Russa, Manager, St. Louis Cardinals. “We are looking forward to uniting as a community to give back to those less fortunate as we prepare to host and participate in one of the most anticipated events in St. Louis baseball history.”
Rawlings is asking that any donated equipment be in useable condition. Examples of possible donated items include bats (wood and aluminum/composite), gloves, batting gloves, catcher’s chest protectors, leg guards, helmets, and baseballs. Items may be any brand; however, the 10% discount will be good towards Rawlings products only.
Rawlings is the official baseball and helmet of Major League Baseball® and the 2009 MLB® All-Star Game.
