In
an effort to build participation in slo-pitch softball in all masters
and seniors age groups in Canada and the United States a mutually
beneficial agreement between SPN, SSUSA and ISA has been reached and
will be in effect for the upcoming 2007 & 2008 season..
All of these efforts to establish this agreement
were designed to create a new excitement that will sweep the sport
throughout North America. The new tournaments – and new opportunities
to play – are the foundation of these efforts.
In Canada, the winners of the SPN National Championships
will be given berths to the SSUSA Tournament of Champions in Florida in
February, and the all remaining teams will be invited to the World
Championships in Phoenix. In addition, senior teams playing in any SPN Can Am or SPN Provincial Championships
tournament will be rated and invited to both the SSUSA World
Championships in Phoenix in late October .Younger teams will receive
berths to the appropriate ISA National Championships. (35+,40+)
In the US, teams will be encouraged to attend SPN
Can-Am Senior Championships. These tournaments will qualify teams for
the SSUSA World Championships in Phoenix and winners will be invited to
the Tournament of Champions in Florida.
The cost to participate in SSUSA competitive
tournaments, each senior player and each senior team must register. A
copy of the registration roster of the qualify teams going to World
Championships will be sent to respective Associations to follow up with
invitations and information’s to respective qualifying Teams.
Recreational Tournament Circuits
SSUSA is currently beginning the second year of a
very successful pilot program to build club and league participation.
The idea is to establish a low-cost circuit of tournaments that local
teams can easily get to …. And that allows them to play other
recreational teams every month or so. Often the teams in this
recreational circuit are league teams that like to play in a few
tournaments during the year.
Teams playing in the Recreational Tournaments
from Canada must be approved by the Provincial Regional Director.
Players in the SSUSA Recreational Circuit do not have to register, only
the teams.
Newspaper / Internet / Mail Coverage:
One of the benefits of this combined effort is a
wider promotional effort by our associations. Expanded event coverage
will include advertising of events in the quarterly Senior Softball
News, the SPN Newsmagazines and the SPN and SSUSA Web Sites.
In the years to come, it is the hope of SPN,
SSUSA and ISA to promote international tournament participation world
wide in countries such as
International Tournaments:
For 19 years, SSUSA has been taking American teams abroad to promote the sport and establish friendships in other countries.
SSUSA’s teams have played in Japan, New Zealand,
Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium, Holland,
Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland,
Russia and throughout the Caribbean. .
